Can't afford to buy a brand new filing cabinet? Then consider making your own this is a great project for the D.I.Y man, and can be done in a day. This project is based on a 2 drawer filing cabinet but you can simply ad more drawers if you wish.
Right then, lets get things started, you will need 2 file holders or plastic file holders which can easily be purchased from any office supply store. Lay these file folders down and measure the length and width of the folders, when you have done this simply ad a extra inch to your measurements, as this will be important at a later stage.

Now measure the size of the wood according to your measurements ( with the extra inch) you took earlier, and cut each piece to size according to measurements, take note that if you want to ad legs to your cabinet then you will need to take measurements for the legs as well. you can use either screws or nails, screws look best, and you will need hinges and wood stain.
OK, attach the four sides to the bottom base and screw or nail these together, you will need to take one side board off at a later stage to add your 2 drawers so just use 2 screws for this side. Now you will need to ad the top, make sure the top is measured slightly larger than the bottom base, purely for convenience should you want to move your cabinet around. Now take one side out and screw in the two slide tracking shelve rods for your first drawer. You can purchase these sliding rods from your hardware store and they can be cut to measure.
Now cut the board that you removed in half for each drawer and use the measurements of the sides and front of your cabinet as a template to create you 2 drawers, use a leveler to make sure you sliding rods are leveled and exact. When you purchased you sliding rods you should have got it in a set so that you can attach the locking rods to the shelves, so they are able to slide in and out when secured to the drawers.
Turn the whole thing over and attach the legs, by drilling holes through the bottom of the base from the inside of the cabinet, you can ad steel or rubber washers to the screws and secure the legs to the base. Now simply stain your 2 drawer file cabinet to your liking and give it a quick buff once it has dried to bring out that shine.
